March has been Marketing Month at Work Avenue – a series of events designed to empower entrepreneurs, freelancers and small business owners with the knowledge, tools and real-world insights to build strong brands and drive growth.
As part of that, our in-person Marketing Essentials Live event saw a jam-packed Wohl Enterprise Hub – as attendees heard from experts in marketing, social media, search and AI, as well as a panel of business owners who shared the strategies that worked for them.
Everyone in attendance was full of ideas and enthusiasm, taking full advantage of the networking opportunities over breaks and lunch, making new connections with each other and the guest speakers.
If you were unable to attend, or did come along and want a refresher, here are 10 top tips from the day:
Winning Attention on Social Media
Dan Kraines, Co-Founder of Digital Marketing Agency Parameter
1. Social media is now a search engine that people go to for advice, information and discovery. Education is the number one type of content being created, and teaching builds trust – when people learn something from you, they start to see you as an expert. Good content includes showing a problem and providing the solution.
2. People are tired of adverts being pushed on them. They don’t want to be sold to, so don’t be pushy. Instead, engage with people’s desire to be sociable again through in-person events, community, talking to others and learning something new.
How to Rank on Google and ChatGPT
Daniel Tannenbaum, Founder of boutique SEO agency Tudor Lodge Digital
3. ChatGPT can write copy in an SEO-friendly way if prompted; however, in the long term, personally written content performs better – so you should always edit and put your own spin on your AI results.
4. Use keywords that people search for – research them online and then insert them into your website’s SEO.

5. Exposure leads to exposure: if you have an interview on the news, tell local newspapers about it as they may comment on their page; if you’re in the newspaper, post it on your socials and tag the publishers.
6. Communicating directly with existing customers is second to none – send a personal note occasionally, or a handwritten thank-you note with a purchase. This makes the customer feel important and valued, and inspires them to continue the relationship.

7. Any marketing needs to make financial sense, but it also needs to be something you are comfortable with. People can tell if you are not enjoying yourself. Authenticity is key to success.
8. Don’t allow a lack of immediate results to stop you from what you’re doing. Persistence is key. After a longer period, if you are still not seeing results, re-evaluate, but give it a chance to take off first.

9. You are the expert in your field or product. Trial and error works – you just have to figure out what is needed for your specific business. You don’t always need to pay for consultants; sometimes meeting an expert for coffee and asking a few questions can lead to insightful and helpful discussions.
10. People buy from people – they want to know the face of the company. Posting on social media with a team member’s face will always perform better than an anonymous word or picture post.
